This coffee comes from a remote part of Yunnan, in an area traditionally famous for its exceptional tea. East of the city of Pu'er and close to the border with Laos, the region is home to many ethnic minorities, including Hani, Miao, Dai and others.

The production of this coffee is managed by Mr. Tian Cai, Director of Agricultural Operations of our origin partners, and Mr. Tang, a family member, manages the farm on a day-to-day basis. They belong to a small group of farming families in the Guiben region of Yunnan Province who grow cherries and buy them directly from small farmers in the area.

Tian Cai and Tang's main motivations for producing speciality coffees are twofold: to provide sustainable livelihoods for their families and smallholder farmers in the surrounding area, and to restore greater biodiversity to the land (many farms focus on a single cash crop, such as bananas). So they plant macadamia, mango and orange trees among the tea and coffee fields.

Mr. Tian Cai is an inspirational and talented coffee producer who is personally involved with both the people and the land. He is the reason why these coffees are some of the best Chinese speciality coffees we have tasted since we started the business. We are very proud to be working with him to bring these wonderful coffees to a wider audience - the potential is enormous".
